If you run your own tools, you can connect a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to Mevrik. Its tools become available to your AI agents, and you decide which ones they can use.
Before you start
You need:
- The URL of a remote MCP server that Mevrik can reach over the internet. Private, internal and loopback addresses are not allowed.
- The server's API key or token, if it needs one.
- A Mevrik account with the Owner or Admin role. Other roles can see the list but can't add, change or remove servers.
Add a server
- In Mevrik, go to Settings → Mevrik Connect.
- Under MCP servers, click + Add MCP server.
- Fill in the Add MCP server dialog:
- Name, for example "Acme Internal Tools".
- Server URL, for example
https://mcp.example.com/sse. - Transport: SSE or Streamable HTTP.
- Authentication: No authentication, OAuth, API key or Bearer token.
- Credential: shown for every option except No authentication. Paste the server's API key or token.
- Click Add server. The button shows Connecting…, and Still connecting… if the server is slow to answer.
- When it works, the dialog closes and you'll see "MCP server added".
Mevrik contacts the server and lists the tools it offers. This can take a while with a slow server.
Choose which tools your agents can use
Click a server in the list to open it. You'll see:
- Connection: the transport and authentication, an Enabled switch, a status badge and when it was Last synced.
- Tools: every tool the server offers, each with a Read, Write or Unknown badge and a permission menu.
Each tool's permission can be:
| Permission | What it does |
|---|---|
| Always allow | Your agents can use the tool. |
| Ask first | Meant to pause the agent for your approval before the tool runs. Not active yet: for now it behaves the same as Disabled. |
| Disabled | The tool is hidden from your agents entirely. |
Use Allow all or Ask for all to set every tool at once. In the list, each server shows how many tools are active, for example "3 of 5 tools active".
To switch a whole server off without removing it, use the Enabled switch. The list then shows Disabled instead of CONNECTED.
Server status
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connected | The server answered correctly. |
| Not yet synced | Mevrik hasn't read the tool list yet. |
| Unreachable | Mevrik couldn't reach the server. |
| Credential rejected | The server refused your API key or token. |
| Not an MCP server | The server answered, but not like an MCP server. |
Hover the info icon next to the status for more detail.
When a server's tools change
If a re-sync finds a different tool list than you last reviewed, the server shows This server's tools changed: "Check permissions below before trusting them." Review the tools, then click Mark reviewed.
Replace a credential
- Open the server and click Rotate credential.
- Paste the new value into New credential and click Save. You'll see "Credential rotated".
Your tool permissions stay exactly as they were.
Remove a server
- In the list, click the bin icon (Remove server).
- Confirm Remove MCP server?. Its tools will no longer be available to your agents. You'll see "MCP server removed".
Troubleshooting
"That URL isn't reachable from here" The URL points to a private, internal or loopback address. Check the server URL.
"Couldn't reach that server" The server may be down or slow. This is usually temporary. Try again in a moment.
"The server rejected the credential" Check the API key or token and try again.
"That doesn't look like an MCP server" The server answered, but not in a way Mevrik understands. Check the URL.
"This server is already connected" That URL is already in this workspace.
"Unsupported transport" or "Check the authentication settings" Check the Transport and Authentication choices.
"That tool list changed" The server's tools were re-discovered while the screen was open. Mevrik refreshed the list. Try again.
"This server was removed" Someone removed it. Refresh the page.
"Couldn't load MCP servers" Click Try again.
"Something went wrong" Try again in a moment.
